Description
Rich and buttery sugar cookies with a hint of nutmeg. These are old-fashioned sugar cookies that are perfect for cutting out. Roll them thin for crisper cookies and thicker for a softer texture.
Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
optional: tinted frostings, colored sugars and sprinkles
Instructions
Cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.
Whisk together dry ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture.
Chill for 1 hour or until firm.
Rollout on a lightly floured surface to 1/8” to 1/4” thickness.
Cut out with cookie cutters and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
Decorate with frosting, sugars, and sprinkles or enjoy plain!
Yield: about 6 dozen medium sized cookies.
