Like Christmas in July, Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is an annual event worthy of celebration. What makes this sale so special is that the discounts apply to brand new merchandise, not the end-of-season items most retailers usually put on sale.
What you will find are amazing prices on all sorts of items, including shoes, handbags, makeup, skin care, perfume…the list goes on and on. But what I focused on was selecting a few closet staples that I knew I would reach for on repeat when the brisk days of fall arrive.
These items are all staples -nothing revolutionary here- however they are quality pieces that will stand up to frequent use and can be paired with a slew of other items for ample outfit options.
BP PLAID COTTON BLEND SHIRT
Purchased two of this fall classic, one in this ivory and black combo and one in a red plaid. It features super soft, thin (but not too thin), flowy fabric and fit is true to size, if not a bit big. For reference, I am a size 6 and usually order a small or a medium depending on the item. I purchased a small in this top and it fits well all over.
SPANX FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS
I’ve been coveting these incredible leather-look leggings for quite some time, but I could never justify their high price tag, so when I saw them listed at a significant discount at the N Sale, I bit the bullet and ordered a pair in Black. I am soooo glad I did as these are far higher quality than the cheaper pair I’ve worn to death over the past year. They feature the loving support that Spanx is known for: perfectly shaping and slimming, yet somehow extremely comfortable at the same time. Fit is true to size. I purchased a medium and the fit is perfect.
BLANKNYC LIFE CHANGER MOTO JACKET
Speaking of faux leather, this moto jacket is an incredible find at under $70 on sale. I’m still waiting (and by waiting I mean obsessively checking my front porch) for the delivery of this piece, but I will update with sizing info just as soon as humanly possible.
*Update (7-25-17): This jacket has arrived and it fits like a dream. I ordered the medium and it is form fitting but not restricting and it looks equally good zipped and unzipped. The material is soft (not at all stiff) and has just enough weight to keep you warm but no so much that you feel like you are being dragged down.
DREAMERS BY DEBUT FORWARD SEAM TUNIC
Another closet staple, this perfectly neutral cream sweater tunic will go with approximately every pair of pants that I own and is a steal at just under $30. Available in a few other colors as well, this lightweight sweater is perfect for layering. Runs a tad bit big, so size down if you are between sizes. Your normal size will fit much like the image indicates. I ordered a small and usually fit between a small and a medium depending on the item.
LEITH EASY CIRCLE CARDIGAN
I can hardly wait to cozy up in this gorgeous cardigan from Leith. The cut of this sweater will lend itself well to many outfits for that casual yet polished look I love. Unfortunately this item looks to have been verrrry popular as many sizes and colors are already sold out. I purchased it in a size small in the Burgundy Stem color.
LYSSE FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS
Yes, I ordered two pairs of faux leather leggings. Obviously, this Burgundy pair is completely different and I needed both. I know this after having owned a pair of cheap ones for a little over a year now and have come to find that I wear them multiple times a week. They are like my spirit animal of pants. The rich shine gives off the impression that you are wearing something much fancier than leggings, when really, you are still living the good life in stretchy leggings.
All kidding aside, this pair really is much different from the Spanx Faux Leather Leggings I mentioned above. These look and feel waaayyy more like leather, however they aren’t as stretchy as the Spanx, so there is a trade-off. Also, the sizing on these is very tight, which is intentional. I ordered my normal size medium (size 6 for reference) and I had to shimmy these bad boys on. But, after carefully wiggling my way in, they fit like a glove and are comfortable to wear. They are also fully lined, making them perfect for blustery winter days as well.
The NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE runs from July 21 to August 6 this year and items sell out very fast.
