Baby Elsa is now a bouncing 11 month old. Literally. I mean she bounces up and down from a seated position throughout the day. It’s enough to melt anyone’s heart, especially when she throws in one of her signature whole-face smiles, which are absolutely contagious.
DEVELOPMENT
Elsa is getting closer and closer to crawling, although she’s not quite there yet. Currently she just rolls to where she wants to go. When she does lunge forward to crawl, her legs get kind of tangled up into a pretzel, and she hasn’t yet figured out how to make all of her limbs work in tandem.
While my little lady isn’t roaming the house yet, she did start saying “mamamama” this month along with some other babbling noises. She’s also due for her two top front teeth to poke through any time now. They are clearly visible in those gums and just waiting for their time to shine, or you know, cause an immense amount of pain.
MORE DEVELOPMENT!
Elsa also started clapping her hands this month, which she does when she gets excited about something and also when she is bored. Another big milestone she hit? She started waving this month! While she still won’t wave at me, she waved at a little girl and her baby sister at a party this weekend, which made my heart sing.
Little movements like this didn’t faze me with my first child, but with Elsa having down syndrome, I’m more aware of the milestones to look for, and she’s been hitting them all, even if she is a little bit behind.
FOOD
By now you probably know that Elsa is a little foodie. That is, if foodies didn’t discriminate between excellent food and so-so food, and instead ate everything that was put in front of them. That’s my girl though! She will happily eat whatever food comes within her reach and she will holler at you if you’re not sharing. I do worry about her little digestive system, so I try to limit her. Fortunately she seems to be very robust and hasn’t had any negative reactions or allergies to any foods yet.
SIZE
Elsa must be about 22 pounds and closing in on 30 inches now. I’ve been getting her 18 month size clothes for the Spring and Summer, which fit her perfectly right now. I think that makes her about average for typical babies and off-the-charts huge for kids with down syndrome. Way to go my big, bouncing girl!
FAVORITES THIS MONTH
TOUCH & FEEL BOOKS :: Elsa loves looking at books with me. I noticed she would start to run her fingers over the pictures in regular board books so I collected all of Thomas’s old touch and feel board books for Elsa.
CORDS AROUND THE HOUSE :: This little stink bug loves yanking power cords around. Often times I will find her laying on her back clutching a coil of cord like a kitten with a ball of yarn. Safe, no. Adorable, yes times a million.
NEW CRIB :: Elsa finally outgrew her Halo Bassinest, so when I upgraded, I went all out with this super beautiful (and surprisingly affordable) old-timey gold crib.
FLORAL OUTFITS :: For Elsa’s Spring and Summer wardrobe haul from our local consignment store I reached for anything and everything floral because something about her reminds me of sweet spring blossoms.
