I’ve found the most effective treatment for stubborn baby cradle cap, which is essentially those thick flaky patches on baby’s scalp.
Both of my babies had remarkable hair. My first child, a boy, was born with a thick head of hair and he looked like a tiny man because of it. His hair grew so fast that he needed his first haircut at the tender age of two months, which was an interesting day at the salon. My second baby was a beautiful baby girl who was born into the word with a plume of soft ginger hair swirled atop her little head.
What they both had in common is a nearly undetectable layer of flaky crust on their scalps. Now I don’t know if this is supper common or not, and maybe it has something to do with them both having a lot of hair when they were born.
Whatever the reason, they had it, and it wasn’t going anyway. With my son, I thought it would resolve on its own. But, after nearly a year of waiting, the thick flakes were still glued on tight to his scalp, well hidden by that thick blonde hair. So I did a little research and found that ultimately you need to physically scrape those flakes off to make a difference.
The solution lie in this funny looking little comb from Safety 1st, along with a special baby shampoo by Mustela. The comb worked wonders as scraping up the flakes, but I must advise, some kids (like my son) will not sit still for you to really make a dent so you just have to do a few scrubs here and there. I kept the comb by the bath tub and took those flakes off little by little each bath time. The shampoo helped to loosen them as well when I left it on his scalp for a few minutes to work its magic.
I used the same routine for my daughter, also with great results and I continue to use the shampoo for both of them for preventative measures.
