20 Pretty Fall Finds from American Eagle Outfitters

These pretty feminine picks from American Eagle’s Fall 2019 collection are beautiful, well-made, and oh, so comfy.

It’s been a minute since I last checked out of an American Eagle store. In fact, until this past year, I hadn’t thought much of the brand I wore religiously in high school over a decade ago. As it turns out, they have grown up too. No longer just graphic tees and jeans (although they still do those well) they now carry some really lovely boho style pieces, nice enough for me to wear to work but comfortable enough to wear on the weekends too.

Before we get into my top picks of the season I wanted to point out a few of the reasons that I am over the moon about this company right now.

Inclusive Models

AEO and its sister brand Aerie, which focuses mainly on loungewear and lingerie, choose to feature models of all shapes, sizes, races, and abilities, including a beautiful lady with down syndrome (just like my little Elsa Boo).

Inclusive Sizes

Nothing makes me sadder than to see a perfectly good line of clothes stunted by a limited size offering. Seriously, if you stop at size 12, why even bother? The average size of a lady here in the US is around size 16. Wake up fashion world! Brands like Modcloth and American Eagle offer a vast range of sizes, AE’s line spanning 00-24 and offering lengths in extra short to extra long. They are even now offering their jeans and shorts in a curvy silhouette for those women who aren’t straight up-and-down. I might look completely average at a glance, but I’m actually quite large, structurally speaking. At 5’ 10” I have struggled my whole life to find clothes that fit me comfortably. So, when I found out that American Eagle’s women’s line now offers many long and tall options for rompers, dresses, and bottoms, I was overjoyed. And their fit model for my size must be my body doppelganger.

They’re Pittsburgh Proud

I live in Steeler Nation, so any company that proudly has its headquarters in the ‘burgh is pretty great in my estimation. They even host the downtown venue where I’ve seen many a band play: Stage AE.

They’re Eco-Minded

Not saying they aren’t fast fashion because: Hello! They are still reasonably priced. But they do seem to be taking a step in the right direction with their jeans recycling program with Blue Jeans Go Green where customer’s earn $10 towards their next pair by bringing in their old jeans (any brand!) to American Eagle to be recycled. Good Design

Seriously, if you peek beyond the destroyed denim and vintage tees, you will see some really good quality materials and designs starting to emerge from the youth-oriented brand. I honestly think they are trying to appeal to a slightly older, young adult group in addition to the teens and college-aged kids they have already been outfitting for decades. Just take a look at my picks for this Fall and you’ll see what I mean. Not only are the designs nice, but the materials and details are on par with more expensive brands like Free People and Madewell, in my opinion.
