Bumbleride first came onto my radar when I was pregnant with my second child and I was looking for a double stroller that I could use to take both my newborn and three year old to the park or for walks around the neighborhood. More specifically, I was looking for a double stroller with a higher than average weight and height limit because my then 2.5 year old was in the upper 90% size range and had already outgrown his single stroller.

My husband is 6′ 3″ and can comfortably push the stroller. Our newborn was sleeping comfortably with the back positioned down and the foot rest up.

SIZE

A bit of internet McGuverying led me to the Bumbleride Indie Twin Stroller which is touted as having a very spacious seat for both sides and a higher than average weight limit of 45 pounds per side. Even better, the updated 2018 version added an inch or two of extra space at the top for my tall toddler. Sold! True to its word, the Indie Twin was able to accommodate my tall tot with a bit of room to grow. In fact, he’s now just about 4 years old (still outlandishly tall) and still fits comfortably in the seat.

Another factor to consider for bigger kids is the length of the harness, and the straps on the Bumbleride did not let me down. The straps are plenty long enough to buckle down my large boy with excess room for puffy coats too.

As for the overall size of the stroller, it’s spacious enough to fit your kids and a whole lotta stuff, yet small enough to fit through almost any door or aisle with ease. We have a standard-sized door on our house and it can fit through there with no issues. In fact, I’ve only came across one door that I couldn’t fit our Indie Twin Stroller though, and it was on a very old building that still had its original doors which were barely wider than me.

ALL-TERRAIN

While the Bumble Ride Indie Twin could be used for some light jogging, I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a running stroller. Instead, it is an all-terrain stroller with blissfully plump air-filled tires which easily and stealthfully handle the unbelievably uneven brick sidewalk, pot-hole filled roads, gravel and grass that I have to endure on our way to the park.  The tires stay filled with air for quite some time, however, the small air pump that was included didn’t work very well (full discloser: we didn’t read the manual), so we used a basic bike tire pump instead.

FOLDABILITY

The Bumbleride Indie Twin is a breeze to fold, but you do need both hands to do it. It’s also not super light or compact, because, hello(!), it’s a double stroller. It does fit easily into the trunk of my SUV, which is actually where I store it at all times. I can unfold it easily too, although I must warn you to make sure you unlatch the lever on the side before carefully flipping the stroller outward to unfold. Although the latch seems sturdy, I wouldn’t put it past my very strong and impatient husband to force the stroller open, breaking the latch in the process (my mind always goes to the worst case scenario, in case you couldn’t tell).

QUALITY & DESIGN

The quality of the design and materials of the Indie Twin stroller is very evident and I have yet to see any wear and tear, although I have only had it a year. Everything from the mesh windows to the hood to the straps, buckles, and handle bar are all very sturdy and high quality. For comparison, my parents have two Baby Jogger City Minis (my second choice for double strollers BTW) and I think the Bumbleride feels a bit sturdier and of better quality materials. If I’m not mistaken, Bumbleride is very eco-conscious and selective about which materials they use, which really shows through.

ADJUSTABLE HANDLEBAR

As you might guess, not only do we have a tall child, but my husband and I are also tall, so we really love the adjustable handlebar which can tilt upwards a pretty decent amount, making walks with the stroller a hundred times more comfortable. If my son decides he wants to get out and push our baby, we can easily lower the handlebar so it’s comfortable for him too.

STORAGE

The storage on the Indie Twin is ah-maz-ing. If you’re going somewhere like the zoo or a fair where you might need to pack a bunch of baby stuff, a ton of kid stuff, and still have room for your mama gear, this is the stroller to take. You’d even have extra space to wedge in some souvenirs too. There is a large under-carriage compartment for the majority of your gear, but also two large pockets on the backs of the seats. Near the handlebars there are two small zippered pockets for money, keys, phones, etc.

The Indie Twin does not come with its own cup holder for the dutiful stroller pusher (me), but it does have cup holders for the kids sewn into the sides of their seats. Since I can’t go anywhere without a drink, I opted to get an after-market accessories case (with two cup holders) from Skip Hop that straps onto the handlebar. Bumbleride also offers an accessories case like this called the Parent Pack.

RECLINE

One of the features I was looking for in a double stroller was the ability to push the seat back, all the way down, to create a level sleeping surface for my newborn. The Bumbleride Indie Twin does feature seats that recline all the way back (or to whatever incline you desire) so that you can create a nearly level surface. While not completely flat, the incline is so minimal that it works well as a safe and comfortable sleeping surface for my infant, eliminating the need for an add-on bassinet. If you would prefer, Bumbleride does offer both a bassinet accessory and a car seat adaptor for this stroller.

SUNSHADE

It never occurred to me to worry about that amount of shade provided in a stroller until I gave birth to my sweet redheaded girl. She is super fair, so any time the sun is shining bright in the sky yank that stroller cover down as far as it can go. For the record I can pretty much conceal every square inch of the seat when the foot rest is in the upward position, which is perfect for babies. My older son’s legs would not be guarded from the sun unless he sat cross-legged in the seat.

Overall, I couldn’t be happier with our Bumbleride Indie Twin. In fact, I get kind of nervous just thinking about life without it. Having a family with multiple babes at the same time is not at all uncommon, so a double stroller should be an essential item for most homes. I went with the Bumbleride Indie Twin because I wanted a good quality stroller that would accommodate my taller than average family, and this was the perfect double stroller for that.

If you’re contemplating getting an Indie Twin please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have. I’d love to hear from you!
