A spin on the class Magic Cookie Bars, these easy layered bars add the rich flavor of creamy peanut butter for an extra treat.
Magic Cookie Bars were kind of my thing, back at the turn of the century. I probably even rang in Y2K with a freshly made batch of Magic Cookie Bars and my Bonne Bell roll-on lip gloss by my side.
By 13 years old I had mastered Magic Cookie Bars. They were my go-to sleep over fodder and always met with unbridled teenage glee.
The secret of their magic is how easy it is to make them with just a few household standbys. The standard recipe calls for graham cracker crumbs, butter, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped nuts, but I’m shunning convention and going big with these ultimate treats: Chocolate Peanut Butter Magic Cookie Bars.
Swap out that plain old butter for peanut butter in the crust and sprinkle on peanut butter baking chips and chopped peanuts for a decadent dessert one friend has likened to “peanut butter fudge.”
Now, that’s not to say these are fudge-like in texture, but in flavor…absolutely! The ingredients combine into a dense, chewy square of peanuty goodness lined with sandy graham cracker crumbs and flecked with coconut shreds.
