These chic lace ghosts are an easy and elegant Halloween craft perfect for farmhouse, boho, or vintage-eclectic home decor.
There’s nothing I love more than an easy project that makes a lot of impact, and these lace ghosts are just that. Inspired by those old school “ghost” lollypops covered with tissues, these elegant ghosts are dressed in lace and crochet for a chic look.
Styrofoam balls serve as the head, although you could easily use balled up poly-fil, like I did for the crochet ghost. Black pushpins are the eyes and heavy outdoor white thread cinches the neck and loops through the top of their heads to be hung around the house.
For each ghost I recommend ½ yard of lace fabric. You can trim a few inches off of the long side to make a shorter ghost than pictured here on the right. For a few of my ghosts I experimented with a ¼ yard of fabric but the end result wasn’t as full, as you can see in the ghost pictured on the far left.
For the crochet ghost, I ordered a large circular sofa doily online, which even at 22” was barely big enough for this project. So, keep that in mind. Perhaps a crochet table runner or small crochet table cloth would work too.
Actually, you could easily scale this project up of down by just using a larger or smaller swath of fabric and Styrofoam ball. Experiment with different objects, like buttons, for the eyes.
These beautiful ghosts look best in groups of three or more to really make a statement. Hang them anywhere you dare. Mwuahhahahaha. What? Too much?
Okay, let’s make some Lace Ghosts!

Description
These chic lace ghosts are an easy and elegant Halloween craft perfect for farmhouse, boho, or vintage-eclectic home decor.
Ingredients
Per Ghost
- ½ yard white lace fabric
- 2” styrofoam ball
- Heavy duty white thread
- Sharp scissors
- Needle
- 2 black push pins
Instructions
- Trim a few inches (horizontally) off of the long side of the ½ yard of lace fabric.
- Center the ball under the fabric, directly in the middle.
- Cut a length of thread and tie it around the fabric, just below the ball, to make a neck.
- Thread a needle with a long length of thread (long enough to hang the ghost) and stitch it through a bit of lace on the very top of the ghost’s head. Secure the hanging thread with a knot close to the ghost so it doesn’t slip out later.
- Push the two black pushpins into the ball for eyes.
- Hang ghosts by tying the hanging thread in a knot at the top and hanging it somewhere. I secured mine to the wall with clear thumbtacks.
Notes
Try swapping out a 22″ or larger crochet doily for the lace or scale ghosts up or down by using larger or smaller styrofoam balls and pieces of fabric. Buttons could also be used for the eyes and poly-fil material can be balled up for the head.

Did I mention kids love this craft? Thomas’ favorite part was creating the ghost faces with pins.
This is how I feel when I finish a craft too.
