BUMP STYLE: PINK PARKA & TAUPE OTK BOOTS

by Katelyn Masters

During my previous pregnancy I was some how able to stretch an oversized black peacoat straight through to the end of winter.  It was nothing short of miraculous and by the end, the threads that held my buttons in place had loosened almost to the point of giving up completely.

This time around, I figured I would go as long as I could in my current coat, which turned out to be not that long at all.  By the 20 week mark I could barely zip up the puffy coat, which felt corset-like on my bulging belly.  So I figured I would give in and buy a new coat.  I originally set out to find a longish army green parka, but when my eyes came across this lovely pink parka with a gorgeous faux fur hood, it was love at first sight.

While this is a maternity item, I’m seriously thinking I could get away with it just looking like a purposefully baggy parka come next winter when I am no longer boasting a baby bump.  In person, everything about this coat is high quality and beautiful and I’ve already received complements from many, including my husband who could care less about clothes.

My only complaint is with the sizing. This is a Jessica Simpson Maternity coat. I’ve purchased other items from her line and the medium fit great, even a bit big on me.  In fact, all of my maternity clothes so far have been in the small to medium range.  However, the chest on the size medium of the coat was way to tight on me!  Seeing as how I am not super well-endowed I’m owing this to a combination of my tall stature and poor sizing on the garment. Seriously, of all brands, I would hope Jessica Simpson’s line would account for curves!

I guess what bugs me, isn’t that I had to size up, but that I am now wearing the largest size they offer, size large, which is annoying because I know that there are other pregnant ladies out there who may be bigger than me and want to look cute.  Besides that though, I love this coat and for the record, the other Jessica Simpson Maternity items I own have no sizing issues what-so-ever.

On to the boots!! These stunners are name brand knock-offs of the famous Stuart Weitzman ‘Lowland’ Over the Knee Boots which retail for around $800. These well-made Marc Fisher ‘Humor’ Over the Knee Boots that I’m wearing though?  I got them for just over $60 bucks at a crazy good Black Friday sale.  While they may be a few bucks more today, they are still very reasonably priced and well made.  I fit in my standard size 10 and even though I am tall they did come up a little bit above my knees!

I’m loving the versatility of OTK boots, which lend an extra element of style to standard issue skinny jeans and pair equally well with dresses!
