As Elsa is growing and changing I keep kicking myself for not keeping notes on how Thomas was developing when he was her age. So, I decided to start a monthly update to share Elsa’s milestones. And maybe throw in a bit about that other, older child too.
At 3 months, Elsa had a checkup and her first set of immunizations, which she was very alarmed by and started screaming to let us know she didn’t like them! Big brother Thomas was there with us for his 3 year well check and was very concerned for Elsa and tried to comfort her. It’s such a relief to know that Thomas is developing empathy and compassion for others.
SLEEP
Elsa has been sleeping throughout the night since she was born and, at one point, I was setting alarms to wake myself up at night to feed her. I’ve since stopped because honestly sleep became more important than keeping up my milk supply. So, Elsa sleeps from 10:30 pm until about 7:30 am when I wake her to feed her before I leave for work.
She still snoozes throughout the day, but her naps are shorter now and she’s awake (and hungry!) more often.
DEVELOPMENT
Elsa seems to be very interested in observing the world around her and is quite content just sitting and watching her very active brother run around. While Thomas was not a fan of tummy time, Elsa seems to *get it*. As soon as we put her on her belly she turns from a sweet, docile little thing into a robust baby, intent on pushing up her upper body and inching her way to the edge of a blanket. I swear she’s going to get up and crawl soon.
SIZE
Baby Elsa is tipping the scales at 12 pounds 4 ounces and she is 24.5 inches tall this month. Meanwhile, old Tom is still hovering around 43 pounds and 41.5 inches. It seems like he hasn’t grown much in the past year. I’m thinking he was about 39 pounds when he turned 2.
Elsa is in the 3-6 month size for her clothes and I have yet to find a color that I don’t like on her, even though I’ve always heard that redheads avoid certain colors.
CURRENT LOVES
H&M Baby Clothes :: are the best. I always find the sweetest little tops and pants for Elsa in H&M and at really great prices too. The clearance rack always has a few great buys for under $5 and the clothes are cut well, with lovely prints, and soft fabrics.
Halo SleepSack Swaddle :: We had Thomas in this thing until he couldn’t fit in it anymore and will probably do the same with Elsa. In the cream colored wrap she looks like a little angel when we put her to bed.
BABYBJORN Bouncer Balance :: I used this simple baby seat with Thomas and now with Elsa too. It is super lightweight and easy to move around the house and it folds flat to chuck in the car for trips. When she is in it, Elsa can look around and see what’s going on, but her head is completely supported so she can pass out when the time comes.
SKIP HOP Baby Gym :: When I feel like she needs a change of scenery, I stick that baby girl under our play gym and let her gaze, open mouthed, at the squirrels and what-not dangling down. She’s even starting to bat at them.
