Traveling with a toddler requires only slightly less preparation than traveling with a baby. Whether it’s a day trip or an extended stay out of town, I still find myself stressing over the packing list for my little one, but for good reason. Thinking ahead to what you will need helps prevent messy, chaotic situations, which can make for a good story later on, but generally are not something you want to put a damper on your trip.
So, when preparing our family for a week-long stay with my parents over the holidays, one thing that I knew we would need is some sort of booster seat for my son, who was about 18 months old at the time. The requirements were simple: a seat that would boost him up to sit comfortably at a table and that wasn’t a huge clunker (you know, the ones that could be mistaken for potty chairs at first glance) because I knew we would be eating meals in the homes of three different family members and lugging around a giant plastic throne makes me feel frazzled just thinking about it.
So, when I found this adorable Perch Booster Seat from OXO Tot, I knew it would fit the bill perfectly. The slim, modern profile collapses at the push of a button, folding into a small, discreet square that easily fits in my favorite diaper bag. Straps (so many straps!) are attached to secure the seat in two places to a normal adult chair, plus straps to harness your babe to the seat. In addition, little grippy pads on the bottom of the seat help keep it in place. The straps can be rolled up and stored under the seat if you don’t intend to use them and the seat also features an indent that works like a handle to make it easier to carry.
The OXO Tot Perch Booster Seat was exactly what we needed for that trip and many others we have been on since. In fact, I had been storing it in the trunk of my car for impromptu meals where my tot may need a boost. However, when I noticed my son wanting to sit at the dinner table in a chair just like us, I decided to bring the Perch Booster Seat in for permanent use in our dining room.
We still use this seat everyday and I highly recommend it for it’s versatility as a travel booster seat and for at-home use. It cleans up very easily and comes in several different colors including gray and taupe if you’re into neutrals. It’s also available in a strap-less version, which is recommended for older kids. Another perk of the minimalist design of this seat is that it can be pushed all the way in, under the table, because there are no arms on it.
Originally I was going to say that the only critique I have of this booster seat is that the chair straps aren’t adjustable, so they may fit loosely around skinnier chairs. However, I just found out that they can be adjusted! The adjustment mechanism is just hidden under the colorful seat pad. So, basically this seat is perfect. Thanks OXO!!
